Deselect in Adobe Illustrator
To deselect any object in Illustrator, click on empty space outside the selection area by using the Selection Tool or Direct Selection Tool. The object will be deselected in Illustrator.
Following are the detailed steps to deselect objects in Adobe Illustrator.
1st Method: Using Selection Tool
As you have created any shape using the Rectangle Tool and as it is drawn it is selected.

Grab the Selection Tool from the left toolbar or you can also use the Direct Selection Tool as well. Both can work to deselect any selected object in Illustrator.

Click on the empty area of the artboard to deselect the shape. As the shape is deselected the bounding box will disappear.

2nd Method: Using Shift key
If you have multiple shapes on the artboard and you want to deselect anyone out of them, you can change others but not the one.

Then press & hold the Shift key from the keyboard & then click once on the object that you want to deselect from multiple selected objects.

From all the selected objects one object will be deselected.

Deselect any Image in Illustrator
If you have any image on the artboard that is spread on the artboard and you don’t have any empty space, press the Shift key from the keyboard and click once on the image using the Selection Tool in Illustrator. The image will be deselected.
You can also deselect any image in Illustrator by pressing Ctrl+A from the keyboard.
