So many designers get confused while working with Spiral Tool, as they might have seen the perfect spiral with many equally curved lines. Because the Spiral created with Spiral Tool doesn’t have an equal distance between each curved line.

How to Draw a Spiral in Adobe Illustrator
In this tutorial, we are going to discuss two methods for drawing spirals. So first of all, we are going to draw a spiral using the Spiral Tool. Secondly, we will draw a perfect linear spiral using the Polar Grid Tool.
1st Method: Draw a Spiral using the Spiral Tool
Drawing a Spiral using the Spiral Tool is very easy and quick.
Step 1: First of all, switch the toolbar so that you have the Spiral Tool in your toolbar. Go to Window > Toolbar > Advance.

Your toolbar will now have more tools than the basic toolbar.

Step 2: Select the Spiral Tool that is located under the Line Segment Tool in the Advance toolbar.

Step 3: Click and drag on the artboard to draw the spiral.

Here is the spiral that is drawn using the Spiral Tool.

You can also change its color. Go to Properties > Appearance > Stroke.

Here is the colored spiral.

2nd Method: Draw Spiral using Polar Grid Tool
The other way to draw a perfect spiral is by using the Polar Grid Tool. So let’s see the steps below to draw a spiral.
Step 1: From the left toolbar under the Line Segment Tool, select Polar Grid Tool.

Note: If you can’t find the Polar Grid Tool in your toolbar, then switch the toolbar to advanced by Window > Toolbar > Advance.

The tools in the toolbar will increase and you can select the Polar Grid Tool under the Line Segment Tool.

Step 2: After selecting the Polar Grid Tool from the toolbar, click once on the toolbar or double click on the Polar Grid Tool.
Polar Grid Tool Options will appear on the artboard.

Step 3: Add width and height to the Polar Grid, then add Concentric Dividers. Here we have added 10 dividers. You can add as much as you want. Set the Radial Dividers to 0 and click OK.

Step 4: Click and drag on the artboard to draw Polar Grid.

A polar grid is drawn, as you can see in the image.

Step 5: Grab the Direct Selection Tool from the left toolbar.

Step 6: Select half of the shape using the Direct Selection Tool.

Half of the Polar Grid is selected.

Step 7: As you have selected half of the shape using the Direct Selection Tool, now go to Edit > Cut.

You can also press Ctrl+X from the keyboard to Cut.
The selected objects will be cut from the shape.

Step 8: Go to Edit > Paste in Place or press Shift+Ctrl+V from the keyboard.

The objects will be placed back in their places.

Step 9: Go to View > Uncheck “Snap to Pixel“.
Also, uncheck “Snap to Point.”
Step 10: Now select all the lines using the Selection Tool of half of the shape.


Step 11: Move the lines and attach the first line to the second line of the other part of the shape.

As you can see here, we have attached the lines in this way.
Step 12: Select the complete shape by pressing Ctrl+A and or select by using the Selection Tool.

Step 14: Go to Object > Ungroup. Ungroup again if the shape is still grouped and the Ungroup option is highlighted.

You can also press Shift + Ctrl + G to Ungroup.
The shape is ungrouped.
Step 15: Now select every second line from one side of the spiral.




Step 16: Press Delete on the keyboard.

The selected lines are deleted.

Repeat this for the other side as well.

Now here is a perfect Spiral that we have created. Your spiral must also look like this if you have followed the right steps.

You can also change its color. Go to Properties > Appearance > Stroke.
