This tutorial will show how you can export a file with transparent background from Illustrator. Adobe Illustrator provides a solid white artboard in the background by default. This is useful when making artwork since it allows you to see things more clearly. Sometimes, however, you wish your artwork had a transparent background. Follow the steps given below to get your art with transparent background.

Step 1: Convert White to Transparent Illustrator
Your first step should be to check the file in the Adobe Illustrator workspace. If the background has white objects, you can adjust them. You can do this by following the steps below.

In Adobe Illustrator, go to the “View” menu and select “Show transparency Grid” to convert white to transparent.

To show or hide the transparent background, you can also press Shift+Ctrl+D from your keyboard.
By showing Transparency Grid, you can check which part of your work will have a white background or transparent.
In case you have any white areas in your object, you can adjust them now.
Step 2: Exporting Illustrator Files
Once you finished editing your work. Go to the “File” menu and click “Export” and then select “Export As…”.
The “Export” Dialog box will appear in front of you. Select your desired location.
Type your desired name in the File name box and select “PNG (*.PNG)” from the drop-down list. As you can see that “Use Artboards” option is greyed out, make sure it is unchecked.
After selecting PNG file format, press “Export”.
PNG Options box will appear.
First, we have “Resolution”. If your work will be used for web or screens, then “Screen (72 ppi)” is recommended. You should select “High (300 ppi)” if you plan to print your work.
The other option you will have is “Background Color” in the “Preview” section. By default, it is set to “Transparent”.
Press OK to export your file with transparent background.

It’s done. Your artwork is now exported with transparent background.
How to Export TIFF from Illustrator with Transparent Background
The TIFF format is an excellent choice if you want high-quality graphics.
Warning: Due to their file sizes, TIFF files should not be used for everyday web or screen-related graphics.
First, save your work by pressing “Ctrl+S”.
Go to the “File” menu, then “Export” and choose “Export As”.
“Export” dialog box will appear, choose your save location from the left-hand side section.
In the “File name:” section, type your file name.
From “Save as type”, choose “TIFF (*.TIF)” and click Export.
Note: For web-related graphics, TIFF, BMP, and EPS should be totally avoided. They are needlessly huge in terms of file sizes. Most applications do not support such image extensions always.
