Create a Circle in Illustrator
Being a designer a lot of ideas appear in the mind, using hollow circles. If you don’t know how to create a Hollow Circle, then you are at the right place. In this tutorial, we will give you a step-by-step guide to making a Hollow Circle.
3 Easy Ways to Create Hollow Circle
In Adobe Illustrator, you can create a hollow circle in three different ways. All mentioned methods are easy. You can choose any method to create a Hollow Circle according to your choice.
1st Method: No Fill to Create Hollow Circle
You can draw a Hollow Circle by applying no fill to the shape. Let’s start.
Step 1: Right-click on the Rectangle Tool from the left toolbar.
Step 2: More tools will appear.

Step 3: Select Ellipse Tool. You can also use Ellipse Tool short key M from the keyboard.
You can draw a circle using Ellipse Tool. Adobe Illustrator does not come with the Circle Tool.
Step 4: Keep pressing the Shift key from the keyboard, click and drag on the artboard to create a Circle.

Step 5: Apply the Stroke to the Circle by Properties > Appearance > Stroke.


Step 6: Select any stroke color.

Step 7: Increase the Stroke of the Circle to make a Hollow Circle.

Step 8: Now set the circle to no fill by Properties > Appearance > Fill > None.

2nd Method: Make Hollow by Path Finder
In Adobe Illustrator, you can also make a hollow circle by using the Path Finder tool. Because you may need to create a different hollow for the circle. So this tool helps to make a Hollow according to your choice. Follow the given step-by-step guide to create Hollow Circle by using a pathfinder.
Step 1: Select the Ellipse Tool from the left toolbar within the Rectangle Tool or you can also press L and then create a circle.

Step 2: Create a circle on the artboard by pressing the Shift key.
Note: When you create a circle by pressing the shift key, a perfect circle is created.

Step 3: Fill it with any color by the Properties > Appearance > Fill.

Step 4: Select any color from the Fill according to your choice.

Step 5: Create one more circle on top of it by using Ellipse Tool.

Step 6: Fill a different color in the second circle.

Note: You can place the top circle according to your choice, the way you want to create a Hollow for the bottom/bigger circle.
Step 7: Now select both circles by using the Selection Tool (V).

Step 8: After you select both circles, go to Properties > Path Finder > Minus Front.

If you can’t find Path Finder on the right side of your workspace, go to Window > Path Finder. Path Finder menu will appear. Here select Minus Front.

As you click on Minus Front, Hollow Circle will be created.

3rd Method: Compound Path
Compound path lets you create Hollow Circle just like Path Finder let’s see the steps below:
Step 1: Repeat Step 1 to Step 7 from the previous method.
Step 2: After selecting both shapes, right-click on the Circle. Select Make Compound Path.

You will see that the above shape is disappeared and created a Hollow Circle as we Make a Compound Path.

In the above-given methods, all are easy to use, it’s all up to you which type of Hollow Circle you want to create. If you create a simple Hollow you can surely choose the first method. But if you want to make a Hollow with a different angle, you can use the Make Compound Path as well as Path Finder.
