How to Make Sparkles in Illustrator (Quick & Easy)

You can make sparkle by creating a circle and then go to Effect > Distort & Transform > Pucker & bloat. Set the Pucker to -72. Copy and then paste it oppositely on the first sparkle. Select: both go to Effect, add outer glow, and you are done.

Step 1: Start making sparkles by using a Circle. So you can make a circle by using Ellipse Tool. Go to the left toolbar and select Ellipse Tool under the Rectangle Tool. You can also use Ellipse Tool by shortcut key L.

Step 2: Press & hold the Shift key to draw a circle.

Here is the circle that we have made using Ellipse Tool by filling the black fill color in it.

Fill in any color from Properties > Appearance > Fill.

Step 3: Now select the circle to apply some effects to convert it to a sparkle. Grab the Selection Tool from the left toolbar or press V from the keyboard and then select the circle.

Step 4: After selecting the circle, go to Effect > Distort & Transform & Pucker & Bloat.

Pucker & Bloat panel will appear.

Step 5: Set the Pucker to -72.

Here is the circle that turned to sparkle after reducing pucker value.

Step 6: Now we will add some more sparkle with this to make it look like a real sparkle. Select Sparkle and then copy it by Edit > Copy or press Ctrl+C to copy.

Step 7: Paste it by Edit > Paste in Place or Shift+Ctrl+V.

The shape will be placed on the first one.

Step 8: Select it using the Selection Tool.

Step 10: Press & hold Shift + Alt and then click and drag from a corner to the inside of the shape to make it small.

Here is the look of the shape. Your sparkle shape should also look like this at this stage.

You can also change its color at this stage if you want to sparkle in white or any color.

Step 11: Select both shapes by using Selection Tool.

Step 12: Go to Effect > Stylize > Outer Glow.

Outer Glow panel will appear.

Step 13: Set the Opacity to 80% and Blur to 12px and click OK.

Note: If you are making sparkle in any other color, make sure to select an outer glow of the same color from the Outer Glow panel.

Here is the sparkle look after setting the outer glow. If you have followed the right steps, then the sparkle you made should also look like this.

You can also create a sparkle by filling it with white color and then applying the glow of white color as well.

How to Make a Starburst in Illustrator

Select the Star tool that is under the Rectangle Tool. Click and drag on the artboard to draw a star and then without leaving the click, press the Up arrow from the keyboard to increase the points of the star. Stop when you get enough pointed ends for a Starburst.

Or click on the artboard once, when you have selected Star Tool. A Star panel will appear. Add 40 points and click OK. A starburst is made or drawn on the artboard.
