Illustrator How to Draw
In Adobe Illustrator, you can draw with different tools. The Pencil Tool can help to make smooth lines as you draw them. The paintbrush tool fills the drawing easily. The Pen tool can also help to make outlines.
As you are new to Drawing in Illustrator, you can place the image that you want to draw first on the artboard and draw by making its sketch. So that you can learn more efficiently and quickly.
Placing Image on Artboard
Click & drag the image from its location.
Place it on the artboard.
This is the quickest method to place any image in Illustrator.
Embed the Image
If the image appears with cross lines, it means the image is with its link.
To embed it go to Properties > Embed.
As you embed, two cross lines will disappear from the image.
Reduce Image Opacity
Select the image with the Selection Tool.
Go to Properties > Appearance > Opacity and reduce it to 20%.
Here is the image after reducing opacity. Now we can draw easily and the drawing will appear clearly on the top of the image.
Lock Image
On the right side of your workspace, go to Layers > Lock the image.
Here we have locked the image so that when we draw the image remains locked in its place.
Draw using Pencil Tool
First of all, we are using the Pencil Tool to draw in Illustrator. “Pencil Tool” can help to draw as you draw on the paper. The pencil is the basic drawing tool that every designer starts with.
From the left toolbar right click on the Paintbrush Tool, from the list select Pencil Tool. You can also “N” from the keyboard to use Pencil Tool.
Make sure to set the Stroke color first. So that, when you draw the draw, appears on the artboard. Otherwise, there will be nothing visible after drawing.
To set the Stroke go to Properties > Appearance > Stroke > Select any color.
We have selected the Green Stroke color so that it is visible.
Start drawing by left click and start drawing as we draw with a normal pencil.

Draw with Pen Tool
Pen Tool can also be used to draw in Adobe Illustrator. You can create smooth curved lines with the Pen Tool but you should know the right way to make curved lines.
Step 1: From the left toolbar grab the Pen Tool. You can also press “P” from the keyboard to use the Pen Tool.
Step 2: Click first at the area from where you want to start drawing.
As you click, the Anchor point will be added.
How to Draw a Curved Line in Illustrator
Step 3: Now click at the second place to add the second anchor point, but don’t release the click.
Drag the line and move it to make a curved line that can adjust the rounding edge of the cup.
Note: Don’t release the left click button while dragging to make a curved line.
When you are done, release the Click.
As you can see that the pen line is still curved.
Click on the second anchor point that you have already created so that the roundness ends there.
Now it’s the straight line.
Now trace it completely to make a full drawing of the cup.
